Dojo vs takepayments: Compare the Complete Quotes
Compare Dojo and takepayments using the same sales, equipment, integrations and contract period, with a practical quotation worksheet.
The short answer
There is no reliable universal winner between Dojo and takepayments. The decision depends on the offer available to your business, required equipment, card mix and contract terms. Request complete written schedules and compare the same trading scenario.

How the published pricing differs
Dojo publishes a 1.2% processing band below £100,000 annual card turnover and custom options above that band. takepayments describes tailored rates and a separate acquiring-bank agreement. Neither description alone establishes the total price of the setup you need.
For a larger business, a multi-device installation or an existing customer reviewing charges, use the actual written offers. Avoid applying a small-business tariff to a turnover band outside its published scope.
Prepare the same brief for both suppliers
- Monthly and annual card turnover, including seasonal variation.
- Number of payments and average sale, plus domestic, commercial and overseas card mix.
- In-person, online and telephone payment requirements.
- Number of terminals, locations and the exact EPOS system and version.
- Required functions such as table payments, tipping and integrated refunds.
- Current contract end dates and any confirmed exit liability.
Ask each supplier to identify which charges are included, variable or optional. Have them explain how the estimate changes in a quieter month and what happens if turnover grows.
A like-for-like quote worksheet
| Compare | What a complete answer includes |
|---|---|
| Processing | A cost estimate using your transaction profile, plus the underlying rates. |
| Equipment | Device quantities, purchase or rental, term and replacement arrangements. |
| Integration | Supported version, features, installation and recurring charges. |
| Service | Support hours, settlement conditions and who handles each issue. |
| Commitment | Minimum terms, renewal, notice and price-change conditions. |
| Switching | Old exit cost, new setup cost and any conditional reimbursement. |
Where separate companies provide acquiring, equipment or software, record the responsibility and agreement for each.
Illustration: the lower running cost can lose in year one
Two fictional offers, not Dojo or takepayments prices. Both process £20,000 monthly across 1,000 payments. Offer A is 1.1% plus £30 fixed monthly: £250. Offer B is 0.9% plus 4p per payment and £20 fixed monthly: £240.
Offer B saves £10 monthly in running costs. If it also requires £180 extra upfront, it costs £60 more in the first year: £3,060 against £3,000. It reaches break-even at the end of month 18, assuming unchanged sales and charges.
Keep brand names off invented tariffs. Enter the actual Dojo and takepayments figures before using this structure to make a supplier decision.
Choose on price and demonstrated suitability
Ask both suppliers to demonstrate the transactions your staff carry out, including a correction, refund and end-of-day reconciliation. Check that the quoted integration covers those actions and establish who resolves a connection problem.
For contract renewal, compare the full cost of staying with the full cost of moving. An exit-cost contribution should only reduce your switching budget when the amount, eligibility and timing are confirmed. Use the calculator for the monetary comparison and keep your operational requirements beside the result.
Common questions
Can I compare the two providers from a single advertised percentage?
No. Add all applicable processing, equipment, software and contract costs using the same transaction profile.
Should a switching contribution count as guaranteed savings?
Only include a confirmed contribution that your business qualifies for, and account for its timing. Keep uncertain amounts outside the main result.

Business profiles are fictional. Examples either use the explicitly identified published tariff or clearly labelled hypothetical prices. They are not customer results, market averages or personalised provider quotations. Unless stated otherwise, they use a consistent VAT basis and include only the costs listed. Provider prices, eligibility and terms can change. Check your written agreement before deciding.
